e. Staff Training on Emergency Preparedness Staff training is the cornerstone of our emergency preparedness effort. Through comprehensive education and ongoing drills, every member of our organization is equipped to respond effectively during an emergency.
Initial Training
• All new hires participate in an intensive emergency preparedness orientation that covers: – Basic life and first aid techniques. – Building-specific evacuation routes and procedures. – The proper use of emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, evacuation chairs, emergency communication devices). – Roles and responsibilities during various emergency scenarios. • Training sessions include hands-on practice, interactive simulations, and multimedia presentations that highlight emergency response best practices in health care and human services.
Regular Drills and Simulated Exercises
• Fire, tornado, and flood drills are conducted at least quarterly in every facility. • Security threat simulations, including intruder scenarios and lockdown practices, are held bi- annually. • Medical emergency drills involving simulated client crises are performed with participation from nursing and clinical teams. • After each drill, a debriefing session is held to: – Review performance. – Identify strengths and shortcomings. – Update emergency protocols based on feedback and observed delays. – Document drill outcomes in an annual emergency readiness report.
Refresher Training and Competency Assessments
• Mandatory refresher training sessions are provided at least annually, or more frequently if regulatory changes dictate. • Competency assessments include both written tests and practical exercises, ensuring that staff can perform tasks such as evacuating clients with disabilities, using emergency equipment, and accurately communicating during a crisis. • Training records are maintained in a secure HR database with periodic reviews by management and Quality Assurance Teams.
Additional Training Programs
• Specialized training in communication strategies during high-stress scenarios is provided to supervisory staff and team leaders to support clear decision-making and effective information dissemination. • Breakout sessions on stress management and resilience help staff cope with high- pressure conditions during emergencies. • Interactive online modules ensure that
